Khalid’s father, a legendary Lorec general, was found dead two days after his youngest son’s birth, and the newborn’s frail health was assumed to be a continuation of a curse that plagued his family. Khalid’s sickly stature did nothing to endear him to his many brothers, all of whom valued physical prowess and the waging of war above all other mortal pursuits. Due to various illnesses that plagued him throughout childhood and adolescence, Khalid was confined to a tower bordering his family’s estate, finding no company other than ancient books his mother brought to him on regular visits. Maia herself was blind, but young Khalid taught himself to read from the dark tomes, unused for centuries, that his father had collected as antiquites in various conquests.
Only three of Khalid’s brothers remain alive to this day. All have fled Lorec, and one is suspected of betraying the Blood, but since all three are missing, no one knows which brother it was. Where his brothers fell victim to their own moral weaknesses later in life, Khalid harnessed his own physical weaknesses and mastered them, allowing him the power to inflict those diseases that have long plagued him onto his enemies. He has also found himself to be adept in matters of subterfuge, being constantly underestimated because of his apparent frailty, which has granted him several unsavory contacts throughout the urban centers of Ciril.
Khalid, seeing the same hubris which led to his own family’s downfall corrupting the current power structure of the Blood, now hopes to offset the weight Lorec might bring to bear against the compromised Falcattan forces as best he can. Perpetually on the side of the underdog, Khalid seeks to right the balance of power so that no one faction dominates and all have need of his services.
He has recently “acquired” the soul of a woman claiming to be a sister he never knew he had. Khalid now seeks to verify her alleged origin and determine what she wants from him by assembling a full set of Zy Tormtor’s Trinkets, even though his various physical afflictions grow more severe with each trinket he adds to his arsenal…
